A body lift is performed to remove any excess skin that has usually developed as a result of extreme weight loss. This will affect the abdomen, the back, the buttock, and the thighs. It is performed typically by removing a band of skin circumferentially around the body of varying degrees. Dr. Berlet performs a body lift with special care to augment the buttock which tends to lose shape by using your own tissue from your lower back or from your mid buttock to augment postoperatively as a flap. This usually will require hospital stay; however, it does depend on whether or not muscles need to be repaired.
