miraDry Q&A

Q: What is miraDry®?

The miraDry system is a non-invasive treatment that offers a lasting solution for underarm sweat. Targeting the sweat glands, the miraDry system, non-invasively delivers energy to the region where the glands reside.  This results in an elimination of the glands and excessive sweating.

Q: What should I expect from the procedure?

The procedure is non-surgical.  Dr. Berlet will customize the treatment for each patient and their underarm area.  Local anesthesia is administered to the underarms prior to administering miraDry and the office visit lasts around 90 minutes

Q: How many treatments will I need?

After the first treatment, perspiration will be reduced by 87% and the patient will see a reduction in underarm hair, as well.  A second treatment will be 100% effective for sweating.

Q: What happens after the procedure?

Dr. Berlet will likely recommend a mild over-the-counter pain medication and use of ice packs for a few days, but there is little to no downtime.  Immediately following the procedure, you should be able to return to normal work activity and resume exercise within a few days.  You may experience some soreness or minimal swelling to the treated area, but that will subside in a week or so.

Q: How long will the results last?

Because the miraDry procedure eliminates the sweat glands, the results are long-lasting.

Q: Do I need underarm sweat glands?

Of the over 4 million sweat glands in your body, only about 2% are located in your underarms.  Eliminating them will not affect the body’s ability to cool itself.

Q: I’ve tried other procedures, how is this different?

Other treatment options – namely Botox injections – are designed to only temporarily disable the sweat glands.  The miraDry procedure eliminates the sweat glands, which makes it a much more longer-lasting solution while being non-invasive.
